Solving Debt Problems

As the standard of living continues to rise quickly, many people find it difficult to cover their expenses. It is in the interest of all parties that timely repayments of loans, credit cards and store cards are made, giving the debtor stability and peace of mind. In order to cater for people with serious debt problems, there are many online companies that provide debt management solutions and help with solving debt problems.

There are different options available with these companies and some of them are presented below:

  • Debt Management Plan: Under this plan, your provider will talk with your creditors regarding your circumstances and ability to make repayments. Your creditors may accept the proposal enabling you to make reduced repayments over a number of years, possibly with a reduced interest rate.
  • Consolidation loan: Consolidation loans are another viable option available to debtors through which they can pay back the amounts due to creditors by taking a loan at a lower rate of interest. Consolidation loans may be secured or unsecured, secured loans typically having a lower rate of interest. Consolidation loans may run for a longer period of time than other debts, meaning the total amount to be repaid may be higher, but this may be offset by the reduced monthly repayment.
  • IVA: An Individual voluntary arrangement or IVA is becoming an increasingly popular method of debt repayment. It is usually a 5 year repayment plan based on the debtor’s ability to pay. This will usually result in a portion of the debt being written off once the IVA has been completed. Due to the amount of work involved in setting up and managing an IVA, certain criteria need to be met in order to be eligible. Firstly, the debtor must have a stable monthly income and typically be able to pay £350 a month in repayment of their debts. Additionally, if the debtor has any equity in their property, the creditors may require that a percentage of this is released towards the end of the IVA.
